RunLog 8/3/13

Well it's been a little over a week since my last blog post. Im blogging on mobile right now, because Im in PA for a family reunion. So this week my blisters finally calmed down due to finding new insoles for my shoes (my old ones had a hole in them that I did not realize) and taking Wednesday off. On Thursday I had cross country practice, where we did around 4.5 miles then played ultimate frisbee. It was fun, but I ended up hurting the same tendon in my right foot that gave me hell during track season. I took Thursday off, partly because of my foot and partly because of the 10 hour road trip to Clarion. This morning I did 8 miles @ 6:44 pace. No pain at all in my foot! I wanted to go faster but it's been a few days since I've gone that far and that here, the elevation is around 800 feet higher than in Mooresville. I'm totally in love with the weather here, though. 60-70 with low humidity and a a swift breeze. Reminds me how much I took the weather in New York for granted. Overall, PA running is extra fun with the elevation, weather, and terrain being perfect for running. It sucks that I'll be going back to NC on Tuesday. I'll check in with y'all soon, happy running! :-)

Last AAU race! (Russell E. Blunt Invitational, Durham NC)

This Friday was my last AAU track race of my sophomore year! I ran the 3000, won my age division, but got a really disappointing time. After all these weeks of base mileage I still am slower than I was in track. Unbelievable. That race was supposed to give me some insight (given, not the best or most accurate insight) of how this cross country season is going to end up, and where I am right now as opposed to my goal 5k time of 15:30. If this race is any indication whatsoever, then oh boy, this season is about to be long and miserable. I shouldn't be putting myself down like that, especially when they said the heat index was 105 and humidity was over 80%. But the only thing that matters on the positive side is that I have a gold medal coming in the mail in a few days. I also wasn't able to run yesterday because I caught a major blister on the ball of my left foot during the race Friday. Ugh, if anything, this last race is making me worry whether or not I'll be able to take 4 more months of weather like this, especially when it comes to racing 5k's and 10k's pretty much every third day throughout the season.
